Picture 2 Do you know when that the first 40 Days for Life prayer vigil took place in 2004 in College Station, Texas? Why? Planned Parenthood has just opened an abortion clinic there! Shawn Carney and three friends gathered to pray, seeking the Lord’s guidance about what to do about the situation. The local Knights of Columbus volunteered to pray around the clock in front of the clinic and donated $10,000 to the newly formed 40 Days for Life team!!

The 40 Days for Life mission statement states: “to bring together the body of Christ in a spirit of unity...with the purpose of repentance to seek God’s favour, to turn hearts and minds from a culture of death to a culture of life, thus bringing an end to abortion.” In 2007, 40 Days for Life became a worldwide prayer campaign. London held its first prayer vigil in September 2011.

If you were able to see the film “Unplanned”, you would have discovered how Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood director, turned to Shawn Carney for help in leaving the abortion “business”. Since Abby’s quitting Planned Parenthood, 190 more abortion workers have quit. Peaceful, prayerful and respectful public witness at various abortion clinics across the globe has made an impact!

The following are only a few examples of those who endorse 40 Days for Life: Pope Francis; Jim Daly, President of Focus on the Family; Dr. Alveda King, niece of Martin Luther King; Abby Johnson; Georgette Forney of Anglicans for Life; Fr. Frank Pavone of Priests for Life; Dr. Sonny Foraker, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Pearland, Texas and member of Pastors for Life; Lila Rose of Live Action; Jim Hughes, former President of Campaign Life Coalition.

We are asking for your assistance to bring family members and friends to this year’s 40 Days for Life prayer vigil. Since 2004 over a million people have participated!! Will you join us “at the corner” to pray peacefully and prayerfully? You will never regret spending one hour in prayer; lives are in the balance.

How can you become involved? You can call the office at 519-659-3334 or go online at in order to choose an hour to pray. Encourage your pastors to come out with you. The vigil times are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday to Saturday. At least two people per hour are needed. Please remember to book your times so that those who are already praying at the vigil site that day know that someone will come to relieve them. Be considerate.
