Welcome to August and Christian Life in London – Lite!

It’s summer time and many of our contributing writers are busy with summer activities including travel, taking care of the kids and grandkids during their summer holidays or getting caught up on all those chores that needed good weather to get done.

While everyone gets the most out of summer of 2019, this edition of Christian Life in London has limited local content but hopefully plenty of material that you will find interesting and worthwhile. His Good News does not take a summer vacation so there is always news and information that we will want to share with you. If you are at home, at a cottage, in a hotel or in tent…and you are reading this, I think your time spent with Christian Life in London – Lite! – August Edition will be a nice break from whatever else you were doing.

Recently, I came across a piece prepared by “BibleStudyTools” entitled
“What does the Bible say about summer?”

Also referred to as the growing season, summer is the time of the year to enjoy the outdoors. From hiking lush forests to swimming in refreshing water, summer is a great opportunity to indulge in the fun natural activities our planet can offer. However, the Bible also encourages us to work and remain prudent during this time as historically this season included cultivation and shepherding. Complied by BibleStudyTools, here is what scripture has to say about this time of year...

2 Samuel 16:2 2 The king asked Ziba, “Why have you brought these?” Ziba answered, “The donkeys are for the king’s household to ride on, the bread and fruit are for the men to eat, and the wine is to refresh those who become exhausted in the wilderness.”

Amos 8:1 1 This is what the Sovereign LORD showed me: a basket of ripe fruit.

Amos 8:2 2 “What do you see, Amos?” he asked. “A basket of ripe fruit,” I answered. Then the LORD said to me, “The time is ripe for my people Israel; I will spare them no longer.

Genesis 8:22 22 “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”

Isaiah 28:4 4 That fading flower, his glorious beauty, set on the head of a fertile valley, will be like figs ripe before harvest— as soon as people see them and take them in hand, they swallow them.

James 1:17 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

Jeremiah 8:20 20 “The harvest is past, the summer has ended, and we are not saved.”

Jeremiah 40:10 10 I myself will stay at Mizpah to represent you before the Babylonians who come to us, but you are to harvest the wine, summer fruit and olive oil, and put them in your storage jars, and live in the towns you have taken over.”

Jeremiah 40:12 12 they all came back to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah at Mizpah, from all the countries where they had been scattered. And they harvested an abundance of wine and summer fruit.

Proverbs 10:5 5 He who gathers crops in summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps during harvest is a disgraceful son.

Proverbs 26:1 1 Like snow in summer or rain in harvest, honor is not fitting for a fool.

Proverbs 30:25 25 Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer;

Psalm 32:4 4 For day and night your hand was heavy on me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer.

Psalm 74:17 17 It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth; you made both summer and winter.

Micah 7:1 1 What misery is mine! I am like one who gathers summer fruit at the gleaning of the vineyard; there is no cluster of grapes to eat, none of the early figs that I crave.

Mark 13:28 28 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near.

Proverbs 6:6-8 6 Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! 7 It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, 8 yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.

Luke 21:29-36 29 He told them this parable: “Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30 When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. 31 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near. 32 “Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. 34 “Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap. 35 For it will come on all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36 Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
