A CLiL Interview by Mike Toth

Philippians 1:6: “For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.

Matthew 12:20, 21: A bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out, till he has brought justice through to victory. In his name the nations will put their hope.

Sheila Walsh is a highly prolific author, musician, and public speaker. Despite all her visible success she has been quite open about her struggles with depression. Her new book, “It’s Okay To Not Be Okay: Moving Forward One Day At A Time,” is a bit of a departure from her previous works.

“At the end of speaking events I usually hang around for an hour or two and just listen,” says Walsh. “This book is in response to comments made by those women. It comes from several steps God used with me over the last ten years. This is ‘how do I move beyond.’”

Walsh says that with our social media culture we have become accustomed to getting snapshots of people’s lives and not actually seeing behind the scenes. She says that it is this culture that exalts success and beauty.

“This is about having an unedited conversation with God,” says Walsh. “For the longest time it was about what I ‘had to do’ to be a good Christian. I had to realise that I am not the good news, but Jesus is.”

A more recent struggle contributed as well to the book. Walsh suffered from a debilitating back problem that cost her an awful lot of opportunities to minister to others, but it also helped her to see that life was a process, not simply a point of arrival.

“God is interested in who we’re are becoming rather than what we are doing,” says Walsh. “Jesus rose with His scars (rather than being physically perfect). We need to celebrate our scars as they are the proof that God heals.”

“It’s Okay To Not Be Okay: Moving Forward One Day At A Time” is being released in October, 2018 and will be available at Christian bookstores and on line at Walsh’s website http://www.sheilawalsh.com/ as well as other retailers. Walsh can be reached at her website, on Facebook, Twitter, as well as at her numerous speaking engagements.
