Matthew 28: 18-20: And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

SEND International is a global mission organization with its Canadian home office just outside of London in Komoka. Rob Magwood, better known to many friends as “Mags,” has been affiliated with SEND since 1990 and is the Canadian Director. Mags’ path to becoming a career missionary started with a short-term mission trip with SEND to the Philippines.

Being a disciple of Jesus is an important first step for anyone hoping to be involved in missions. But what does that mean? SEND Canada's director Rob "Mags" Magwood talks about it in this video.

“On that trip I lived with a Filipino pastor who mentored me,” says Mags. “I would ride out to the countryside with Pastor Mar on the back of his motorcycle and he would lead a Bible study with the local people. I didn’t understand the language but would try to keep up with an English pamphlet on the topic he was speaking about. On one trip home Mar told me, ‘The next study you’re doing.’ I would lead the study in English and he would translate for me, and he would critique me, saying, ‘You did this really well, this you need to improve on.’ When I returned home a member of SEND kept meeting with us, and once we had a sense of calling (to missions) he walked through the process with us.”

SEND International is ministering to 60 distinct people groups throughout the world. The Canadian office alone has about 45 long-term missionaries in the field in addition to the staff required to support them. They also help send dozens of short-term workers each year. SEND is especially keen to disciple unreached people groups, commonly defined as those with less than 2% evangelical Christians. The task is daunting and the process to becoming a missionary is rigorous for the protection of the organization, those who will be ministered to, and especially the candidate missionaries themselves. Mags says that becoming a long-term missionary is usually not a natural career choice and encourages short-term missions (2-3 months) for younger people and those who think they may be called to the mission field.

One way to begin to learn more about world missions from the comfort of your own home is through the Global Missions Podcast (http://globalmissionspodcast.com/). The podcast currently has 85 episodes hosted by Mags with guest experts on a fascinating array of topics associated with missions.

Despite having served a over a couple of decades with SEND, Mags’ passion for reaching un-discipled people groups remains undiminished, as does his love for the organization. “We believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the hope of the world and His people have been given the task of being His ambassadors. Evangelism should not be passé for the Canadian church; the call still stands.

If people are looking for a perfect agency we’re probably not that. But, if you’re looking to join a community of sinners who have been saved by grace and are looking to serve faithfully we just might be your community.”

SEND International believes that God is still building His church and continues to pray that as the world changes they would have the vision to continue to be fruitfully joined with God’s bigger picture. There are many ways that you can join in with the work,
