By Roland Clarke

In December 2017 we published an article by David Foster in Christian Life in London entitled, “Following the star.” This explored five clues pointing to Christ, the Morning Star, who signals the dawn of the Day when God will be our everlasting light.

Speaking of dawn, David showed a couple secular-minded college students a picture of a magnificent sunrise. This sparked an intriguing conversation about God as light which didn't surprise me, considering Solomon observed that, “Light is sweet; how pleasant to see a new day dawning.” (Ecclesiastes 11:7)

This picture stirred the student's imagination reminding David of the saying,“A picture is worth a 1,000 words.” We trust this article by Roland Clarke gives you a glimpse of how you too can point people to the true light.

Solomon made a profound observation, “God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Until now – 3,000 years later – people are still pursuing this elusive heart longing for immortality, the “fountain of youth” etc.

The prophets revealed many glimpses of this hope.

God kept his promise and the long-awaited Messiah finally came. As it is written, “God’s grace ... has now been revealed through the appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.” (2 Timothy 1:10)

The words of the prophets “are like a lamp shining in a dark place—until the Day dawns.” (2 Peter 1:19)

Sunrise ... Sunset??
“No longer will you need the sun to shine by day nor the moon to give its light by night, for the LORD your God will be your everlasting light.” (Isaiah 60:19)

“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the LORD turn his face toward you and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
