The launch event of the 2015 40 Day Right for Life Vigil was held at St John the Divine Catholic Church in London Ontario on September 23rd. While there was not a huge number in attendance the 40 that did show were very enthusiastic supporters of London Area Right to Life and the 40 Day Right for Life Vigil.

The agenda for the evening included some lively music performance by the GG's, a group of 4 Christian ladies. Their performance included “Put Your Hand in The Hand” and “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove”. This was followed by a video presentation which featured the late Phil Arnsby talking about why the prayer vigil is so important. Some of the scenes in the video are from previous 40 day vigils, always at the corner of Wellington Road and Commissioners Road in front of Victoria Hospital. He explained the importance of the location as 60,000 vehicles drive by every day. The video ended with a powerful statement: Time you move from being the casual inquirer to the diligent seeker.

Janice Rutledge, the Secretary of the Board, spoke next providing the audience with some of the statistics about the momentum of the event worldwide. In 2014 there will be 298 cities in 13 countries holding a 40 day vigil and these are supported by 17,000 churches. She provided further details on the number of abortions that had been avoided, the number of abortion workers that left the profession and the number of abortion clinics that have closed.

Janice was followed Bonnie Pember, the new London Area Right to Life office coordinator. Bonnie recently took over the challenging task of Administrator from Elaine Arnsby who is moving to Windsor. Elaine and her late husband Phil were the leading ambassadors of the London Area Right to Life since its inception.

Being the new face of London Area Right to Life, Bonnie introduced herself with her very interesting journey which included her time as a nun within the Catholic Church. For 15 years Bonnie was nun with the Carmelites of Boston which is a community of contemplative nuns belonging to the worldwide Order of Discalced Carmelites. She was also a teacher for 10 years. She shared stories about her family and the miracles of birth within her family.

With Elaine stepping down, this was the right time for Bonnie to take the reins just as the largest initiative of 2014 was about to begin. She led the team in organizing this year’s strategy and provided the launch event attendees the relevant details for the vigil. She stressed to the group, "The 40 Days for Life is to be a peaceful gathering. This is simply a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion."

Bonnie concluded by urging all in attendance to call or go online to sign up for at least one hour during the Vigil times ( 7 am to 7 pm Monday to Saturday) though to November 1st. There will be a wrap up party on Saturday, November 1st at the Faith Lutheran Church at 7 p.m. Bonnie concluded her presentation with, "We pray that, with God’s help, this will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city - and beyond."
