How many times have you said; "Instead of cooking at home. Let's go out for dinner tonight - but where do you want to go?"

Decisions - decisions...

Consider this: If you ate in a different London restaurant every night, not including any fast food place, how long would it take you to have sampled every one of the city's dinning locations?
  • More than 2 months? Much longer.

  • More than 6 months? Not even close!

  • A year? Keep going.

  • One year, four months, 3 weeks and 1 day? Correct!

According to Trip Advisor, the world's largest travel site, there are 507 restaurants in the city and, with the 5,939 reviews submitted to them, they have complied their list of suggestions overall and by type of restaurant.

    (109 Reviews – Rated 4.5 out of 5 )
Located adjacent to Budweiser Gardens, between Richmond and Talbot St, Tamarine by Quynh Nhi brings new life to one of the most energetic areas of Downtown London. Tamarine is sleek and urban-chic, with a sophisticated palette and an upscale mix of contemporary Asian-inspired motifs, art, cuisine and ambiance.

Vietnamese cuisine is light and refreshing, using crisp, uncooked vegetables, subtle seasonings, fresh herbs, and unique flavor combinations. It is more tropical and fragrant than other Asian cuisines while elegantly incorporates its French and Chinese culinary influences.

  2. David's Bistro (www.davidsbistro.ca)
    (57 Reviews – Rated 4.5 out of 5)
David's Bistro was opened in 1998 by David Chapman. After being Chef, and then Chef Owner of Anthony's Seafood Bistro for 18 years, David decided to start over again and open a traditional style French bistro with the emphasis on not just seafood, but all aspects of food. With a daily prix fixe menu, regular menu, and daily features, there is a constantly changing selection.

An extensive and sensibly priced wine list, with chalkboard additions, and everything served by the glass or bottle, the wine lover is well taken care of.

  3. Shmokey Rob & Sons Southern Eatery (www.shmokeys.com)
    (72 Reviews – Rated 4.5 out of 5)
Opened 3 years ago by chef Harley MacIntyre, this hole-in-the-wall gem has been pumping out the tastiest BBQ you've ever eaten. Honing his skills as a French-trained chef, MacIntyre puts his own unique twists on all the food he creates in his tiny kitchen.

Located in the London Mall at Oxford and Wonderland, better- known as the Sears Outlet Mall, this restaurant specializes in Pulled Pork Sandwiches, Beef Brisket sandwiches and other BBQ delights. Shmokey's takes the "Low and Slow" philosophy seriously. After a rub with a special blend of spices, both the beef and pork and smoked for 20 hours to ensure they're as tender and juicy as possible. Covered in house-made sauces, these meals are big, messy and mean business.

The Top 6 Restaurants According to the Readers of
Christian Life in London!! (www.clil.ca)

Kipps Lane Fish and Chips
Picked as Number 1 by Christian Life in London team member Gavin Dell

At first glance it looks like every other food establishment, but this restaurant is so much more. Kipps Lane is a small fish and chips shop that is located at 1050 Kipps Lane. It is clear that Kipps Lane Fish and Chips is very different from other food establishments as soon as you walk in the door. From the friendly family atmosphere to the great food, Kipps Lane Fish and Chips has it all.

When inside, you get a little taste of the history of the restaurant as you glance around and see newspaper articles and pictures on the wall. It is clear that this small shop has a big history. It was founded by John Arp in 1972 with a clear vision in mind. Through his hard work John took a store that was a "fixer upper" and turned it into Kipps Lane Fish and Chips, the best fish and chips shop in London.

John Arp ran the store up until December 2010, when sadly he passed away. This is when his daughter Jacqueline Arp took over the business, working at UWO in the day and Kipps Lane at night. Like her father, she too strives to bring excellent food to the people of London. With this busy schedule she has to rely on her amazing staff including Lorrie Emery and Terry Gurnett who help prepare all the food from scratch.

So what about the food? Well, the fresh fish is dipped in a secret batter that creates a delicious crisp layer over the generous serving. When you bite into it you get a little taste of what Fish and Chips in heaven would taste like. The fish is cooked to perfection and their homemade tartar sauce adds a spectacular touch. They also serve a Halibut and Bacon Chowder. I have had many types of chowder in my life, but this is by far the best I have eaten. The balance of flavors keeps you enjoying the meal to your very last bite. When you reach the bottom of the bowl you get a sense of disappointment, because you have just realized that you are out of amazing Chowder.

They also have many other options on their menu, one of them being their battered shrimp. I am a huge fan of shrimp and the layer of batter complements the flavor perfectly. Then there are the "Hali-bites", which are pieces of halibut surrounded with batter shaped in balls. These are really nice for children as they can eat it with their fingers and enjoy a meal that doesn't have to be cut up for them.

One of the best parts about Kipps Lane Fish and Chips is their prices. They have great serving sizes at very reasonable prices. If you are thinking of getting take out or are planning on going there, take a look at their directory listing for more information.
