A group of concerned Christians commissioned Nordex Research to determine local attitudes about any expansion of casino gambling facilities in the city of London. This research was conducted recently (June 18-22, 2012) and gathered public response to 15 questions that gauged responses to arguments in support of expanded gambling facilities and arguments in opposition. The most important information gleaned from the research was that the expanded gambling plan is unpopular in London and is rejected by more than a 2:1 margin. In addition, if a vote were held on the matter at city council, respondents would be expecting counsellors to vote NO! by a 5:2 margin. Fully 69% of decided voters in London were opposed to expanded gambling.

These results greatly encouraged the local Pro-Family Network who is working to educate the citizens of London on the harmful effects of gambling on a community and to stop gambling expansion in London. Secretary and Board Member Dale Mackness said, "Citizens can make a difference and stop gambling expansion in London by taking action. Let your representatives locally and provincially know your opposition. It has never been easier to contact those in authority and to express your opinion about the family UNFRIENDLY activity of gambling. The Pro-Family Network is deeply concerned about the threat that more gambling facilities will bring increased gambling addictions and will be an assault on families. Citizen Impact Canada Inc. http://citizenimpact.ca/gambling-on-gambling/ is accepting donations to assist in research and providing the information to the Citizens of London and our elected officials."

Ian Gillespie wrote an article on July 20, 2012, in the London Free Press saying, "It's not easy to put a price tag on a ruined life." Gillespie quoted Lori Griffith, coordinator of core programs with Addiction Services of Thames Valley who said: "We understand why some of the city council people are looking at the idea of job creation, but people aren't thinking about the consequences on the other side. Those consequences include financial ruin, family breakdown and severe mental-health problems." Gillespie added, "Statistics, sadly, don't reveal the full extent of this "hidden addiction." As one expert tells me, you can usually spot somebody with a drug or alcohol addiction; but when a pathological gambler shows up broke, there's nothing to see. The Canada Safety Council believes that, in Canada, more than 200 compulsive gamblers take their own lives every year; the council also estimates that for every suicide, five gamblers with self-inflicted injuries end up in hospital."
